About Yacon Syrup

What is yacon syrup?

Yacon syrup is made from the Peruvian yacon root (Smallanthus sonchifolius), an Andean tuber. We press the root and gently reduce the juice into a single-ingredient syrup. No additives, no preservatives, no fillers.

How does yacon compare to maple syrup on the glycemic index?

Yacon syrup has a glycemic index of approximately 1, compared to maple syrup at GI 54. That's 30 to 50 times lower impact on blood sugar, making it suitable for keto, diabetic-friendly, and low-carb diets.

Is Yakonow truly single-ingredient?

Yes. Our ingredient list contains exactly one ingredient: yacon syrup. No preservatives, no added sugars, no fillers, no flavorings, no chemicals.

What is prebiotic FOS and why does it matter?

Yacon is naturally rich in fructooligosaccharides (FOS), prebiotic fibers that support beneficial gut bacteria. We don't make medical claims, but peer-reviewed research has documented yacon's prebiotic properties.

Where does Yakonow come from?

Our yacon root is hand-harvested in the Andean highlands of Peru by small family farms. Production and packaging happens at our FDA-compliant facility in Texas, USA.

How to Use Yakonow

What does yacon syrup taste like?

Smooth, warm caramel-molasses notes. Less sweet than maple syrup, naturally rich, slightly nutty. Goes with everything sweet — pancakes, oatmeal, coffee, baking, salad dressings, even cocktails.

Can I cook or bake with yacon syrup?

Yes. Heat-stable up to 350°F (177°C). Replace sugar 1:1 in pancake batter, muffins, granola, glazes, or homemade dressings. Caramelizes beautifully.

How much should I use?

Drizzle 1-2 tablespoons over pancakes/waffles, or 1 teaspoon in oatmeal, yogurt, or coffee. A 6oz bottle lasts 3-4 weeks for a 2-person household.

How should I store Yakonow?

Unopened: shelf-stable up to 24 months at room temperature. Once opened: refrigerate and use within 6 months for best taste.

We ship from our Texas facility within 48 hours. Standard delivery 3-5 business days in the continental US. Tracking number sent automatically via email.

How much does shipping cost?

Free shipping on US orders over $35. Below $35, standard shipping is $4.99 flat rate. International shipping calculated at checkout.

Do you ship internationally?

Currently we ship to the United States and Canada. Other international markets coming soon — contact us if you're outside North America and we'll add you to the notification list.

What is your return policy?

If you're not 100% happy with your first bottle, contact us within 30 days at hello@yakonow.co. We'll make it right with a refund or replacement. We mean that.
