Our Story
We started Yakonow for everyone who quietly gave up their favorite breakfast.
The caramel sweetness you remember — made from a root, not a refinery.
The mornings we didn’t want to give up.
The quiet trade-off we kept seeing
People who care about what they eat kept telling us the same thing: they hadn’t lost their sweet tooth, they’d just lost the permission to enjoy it. Sugar meant the spike and the slump. “Sugar-free” meant a chemical aftertaste and kids who pushed the plate away. So the syrup sat in the cupboard, and breakfast got a little less joyful.
We didn’t think anyone should have to choose between a sweet morning and a steady one.
So we went looking — and found a root
High in the Peruvian Andes, families have sweetened their food for generations with the yacon root. Naturally sweet, gentle on the body, and nothing like refined sugar: most of its sweetness comes from prebiotic fiber, so its glycemic index is just 1–5. It had been there all along — we just brought it to the breakfast table.
How we make it — and how we don’t
We make Yakonow the way it has always been made: the root, slow-pressed in small batches into a caramel-colored syrup. One ingredient. Nothing added. Every batch is checked for purity and consistency, then bottled with care in the US — so what the label says is what you pour.
What we actually promise
No fad. No lecture. Just the caramel sweetness you remember — made to fit the way you eat today. Pour it on the pancakes. Stir it into the coffee. Share it with the people at your table, and feel good about doing it.
